REVIEW: Editors new single “Magazine”

Editors are back with brand new single Magazine, straight from new record Violence. The single premiered last night on Jo Whiley’s Radio 2 show, and was shared with a new video in tow. The video is a clear finger point at the corruptions in politics and of those in power, and is some of Editors most accessible music yet.

Editors have a very unique sound, particularly due to lead singer Tom Smith’s deep vocals. Their early albums definitely had an indie leaning to it, before moving towards an 80’s sound and most recently a far darker and mellow sound to their records. This latest release has far more of an “Imagine Dragons” feel to it, with pounding drums and the electronic synth feel that has been widely adopted by Imagine Dragons.

This single is well worth a listen, it’s certainly not one of their best and is a far cry from their first two albums. However, I feel it is a step up on their last album and seems to be taking the band in a more positive sounding direction.

If you haven’t listened to the band before, songs such as “Sugar”, “Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors” and “Papillon” are the best to get you started! They’re certainly a band worth your time and attention, and they’re hard not to love!

The band have also announced a small run of intimate shows to celebrate the album release:

04/03 Birmingham Town Hall
05/03 Manchester Cathedral
06/03 London Clapham Grand
